HeadTeacher's Welcome

Welcome to Burwood school. We hope this website will show how committed we are to providing the highest possible quality of education for our students.  We hope that you will also see that we are enhancing our reputation throughout the Local Authority as well as regionally and nationally to become a leading provider of SEBD education.

Burwood School is a rapidly improving school for students with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.  I am extremely proud to have been appointed the new HeadTeacher from September 2012 and aim to lead Burwood School into the future so as to raise the achievements, attainments and aspirations of all our students.  I am committed to ensuring the best quality of education with specialist teaching and targeted specific SSA support in all subject areas.

At Burwood School we endeavour to create a positive learning environment where all staff work together to encourage our students to reach their full potential in every aspect of the curriculum.  Each student is treated as an individual and strong pastoral/tutor support creates an atmosphere of security and co-operation.  We celebrate the successes of every individual student and encourage a variety of talents and skills.  All our students should feel secure, valued and happy and leave as mature, confident young men ready to move on into Further Education or the workplace.

We intend to strengthen our partnership links with secondary, primary  and other special schools and the Behaviour Service as well as working closely with other outside agencies such as: Educational Psychologists, Social Services, Educational Welfare Officers, the School Nursing Team, Youth Offending Team, the Speech and Language Service, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Targetted Youth Support, the Local Authority SEN Department, Healthy Schools, the Achievement for All Programme, Post 16 Further Education providers and all the examination awarding bodies.

I would encourage all parents/carers to visit us during a normal school day so we can show you the quality of education on offer at Burwood School.  Our examination results for the 2012 Year 11 leavers were our best so far, with all those students gaining Post 16 College placements, apprenticeships and work.
